The reference picture was found at picsandmodels.blogspot.com - a fabulous resource for fashion images online!!! I love the picture for its communication of a peaceful 'for the better' attitude. It conjures notions of holidays, relaxation and peace. The use of a gentle breeze, warm light, and a transparent shirt, really enhance this ethereal whimsicality.
This image was also posterised in photoshop, so that the contours could be effectively rendered according to their darkness. The shirt was made transparent, but the image lacked texture, so earring, and necklace symbols were made into pattern brushes, and a bangle was added. This was also to make a clearer 'fashion' message in the image. The background image was taken of a sunset in Kep, in southern Cambodia. I like the way the colours of the image complement the background, and the way her feet are reflected in the water. The background was positioned so that the lines of cloud could work as an effective vector in the composition.
The font is Gastada from DaFont. It was chosen for its soft, scratchy, natural, slightly decaying vibe, which could conjure visions of a decaying wooden beach bar where people dance to reggae music and drink mojitos while watching the sunset, wearing swimsuits, kaftans and jewellery.
