Fashion and Film- Day 1 reading

Screen Style: Fashion and femininity in 1930s Hollywood. by Sarah Berry, 2000. The section about stars and emulation seems like it could have been written about today's influential celebrity culture. Googling 'celebrity fashion' comes up with 66 million results!! I actually own a book by Rachel Zoe called Style A to Zoe: The art of fashion, beauty & everything glamour. (2007)Looking back over it I am struck by the similarities. Zoe says "When I sit down with clients we determine whose style they'd love to borrow elements from and we discuss why. For Lindsay Lohan we've channelled Brigitte Bardot and Marilyn Monroe as a young Norma Jean. For Mischa Barton we've tapped Twiggy and Peggy Lipton." p 12 She advises the reader to collect images of their favourite icons and looks, to build an inspiration file. Zoe includes case studies of her celebrity clients, encouraging the reader to come into this desirable world of glamour. Websites like WhoWhatWear are built around making celebrity and runways style available to readers with suggested purchases, trend forecasts, celebrity trend analysis and styling advice.
