Lecture 6- Beyond Hollywood.

Brigitte bardot. 1950s france very conservative. had children out of wedlock. For young french women, she represented youth rebellion. And god created woman. With one line, brought couture to an end. “I bought it in a little boutique in the village(paraphrase)” Bardot was representative of a casual youth culture. She still had sex appeal through her figure, and her hair and make up, but this casual chic made other women feel overdressed. She bypassed traditional modes of fashion portrayal.
